Pink Tabebuia But Which One?
It’s start of april when you start seeing the spectacular flowering trees in bloom. Most of warm climate deciduous trees bloom in spring when there s not a single leaf on them. Tabebuia, Jacaranda, Erythrina, Cassia Bakeriana, Bombax Ceiba and many others put on a great show with their gorgeous flowering display. Tabebuia is gaining popularity with ever increasing number of trees blooming each year. Yellow Tabebuia (Tabebuia Chrysantha) is already a favorite but Pink Tabebuia is gaining more popularity than yellow one. Yet majority of people do not realise that there are many diffrent varieties of Pink Tabebuia out there with prices varying from Rs 400 to Rs 10000 for a small plant. Following species are available in the market but not even the nurserymen know the difference between them.

Tabebuia Rosea is the most commonly found in India and thailand and is also available in marketfor a long time. Usually grown from the seed , it takes 6 to 8 years to bloom. The blooms are light colored of all tabebuias and are borne in loose clusters. The leaves are fairly distinctive from those of Tabebuia Impetiginosa and Tabebuia Heptaphylla are are round and thick.
It is a recent introduction from Thailandwith prolific blooming. The flowers are slightly intense in color than those of rosea and are borne in more profusion. Flowers are produced in loose clusters however. Here s a photo of one blooming in Bahria Town Lahore.
One of the most stunning trees in he world. It is exclusively available with us. One of our suppliers in USA was abble to get some plants from Fairchild Botanical Gardens in Florida who got their trees from Brazil. This tabebuia will bloom mostly within 6 months from seed. Some of the seedlings will give plants that bloom twice or thrice a year but some will only produce flowers in Spring. We are trying to raise plants from cuttings or by grafts which will bloom twice or thrice a year. The flowers are borne in compact round clusters resembling the flowers of hydrangea or Viburnum Opulus Snow Ball bush.
